Profile

Jody Garry joined the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences (ICHAS) in 2022. Jody Garry holds a BA in Social Science and an MA in Youth and Community Work from Maynooth University and has significant experience working with vulnerable young people and their families in youth services, Garda youth diversion programmes, and education welfare services.

Jody is experienced in delivering bespoke Continuous Professional Development training and has previous experience of full-time lecturing in TU Dublin’s School of Social Sciences, Law and Education, teaching on both the Youth Work and Community Development and the Early Childhood Education and Care BA programmes.

Jody currently works full time as a Coordinator in a Tusla Education Support Service (TESS) funded programme which offers targeted interventions to children who are at significant risk of early school leaving. Jody takes a person-centred, relational approach in both interventions with young people and in her teaching style, believing that integrating academic theory and lived experiences provides meaningful engagement and retention of knowledge.

Jody’s research interests include the value of working creatively with young people, authentic youth participation, school retention, and experiences of Traveller and Roma young people.
