Mental Health & Addiction in the Community – My Move Counselling

Introduction

We are delighted to present this course in Mental Health and Addiction in the community. This course is an introduction to the issues that need to be addressed if dealing with either of these topics. This course will introduce the history and background of Mental health, dealing with issues such as anxiety and depression and the strong link between mental health and addiction. It will also explore an introduction to family therapy and what type of resources are available to anybody who needs to access these type of resources.
The delivery of the course will be interactive in manner and will use experiential learning techniques. This course will demonstrate foundational hands-on approaches, techniques and skills of dealing with mental health and addiction issues utilising real life case studies. This course will also provide information on further studies in this field.

Mode of Delivery: Online. Duration: 3 Weeks (6.00-8.00pm)

Certification: The College will issue a Certificate of Attendance to those who take this Short course.

Course Overview

Dr James Kinane : Dr James Kinane is a Programme Director, lecturer and clinical and academic supervisor at ICHAS. He is an educational psychologist and joined the staff in 2015. James is a graduate of ICHAS and is a lecturer in undergraduate and graduate programmes in addiction and supervision at the College. James has extensive experience in the field of addiction working in rehabilitation treatment  centres throughout the country, and is part of CHKS team to monitor and accredit treatment centres and healthcare providers in Ireland and the UK.

Mr Ciaran Carey:

Ciaran is an addiction counsellor and specialist with vast experience in the field of addiction and recovery. Ciaran holds a BA (Hons) in Counselling and Addiction Studies from ICHAS in Limerick. He is an accredited member of Addiction Counsellors of Ireland (ACI). Ciaran’s skills lie in his ability to combine addiction and general health issues by applying a person centred approach to his work in both private practice as well as residential treatment centres.

Ms Anne Reidy: Ann holds a BA (Hons)  in Counselling and Addiction Studies. Ann has considerable experience working in the field of general counselling and addiction. Ann is an integrative counsellor recognising the effects of childhood and past experiences, which play a considerable part in the issues that emerge in later life. Ann uses the client centred approach, recognising the dignity that each person holds thereby creating a safe therapeutic space for people to deal with personal issues including traumatic events, addiction, depression, bereavement, anxiety and poor self-image.
