Recent CORU Announcement
ICHAS welcomes the landmark announcement from CORU, Ireland’s multi-profession health regulator, regarding the publication of the approved Standards of Proficiency and Criteria for Education and Training Programmes for both Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
Statutory Professional Regulation has been a long-term goal for practitioners, educators, and Professional Associations, who have supported the voluntary accreditation of practitioners for a long time. It is a significant and positive step forward for the professions in Ireland, marking a crucial and necessary landmark on the journey towards statutory regulation. The publication of both Proficiency and Education and Training Standards will enhance public protection and ensure that clients receive care from practitioners who meet the highest national standards of knowledge, skill, and competence.
We look forward to working with both CORU and QQI to incorporate the newly published standards within our programmes at the earliest possible opportunity and collaboratively work with Providers to build greater public trust and ensure consistency in the delivery of safe, high-quality practice. We are excited to be part of this historic evolution of the mental health landscape in Ireland.
