Why Do I Put Things Off? Procrastination and the Psychology Behind It
ABOUT EVENT
This introductory talk, hosted by Christine Beekman, will explore the topic of procrastination and the psychology behind it. While the delaying or avoiding of certain tasks may provide temporary relief to the pressure of the moment, habitual and problematic procrastination may eventually lead to anxiety, depression or other poor mental health conditions.
Identifying the underlying assumptions and rules by which we live our lives may be helpful in understanding the origin and triggers of procrastination.
This talk will therefore address the causes, pay-offs and costs associated with avoidant or delaying behaviour, while relevant techniques to reconstruct unhelpful beliefs in this respect will also be discussed.
About the Presenter:
Christine has lectured at ICHAS since 2008 and holds a Master’s in Psychoanalysis, alongside qualifications in CBT, stress management, and spiritual development.
In private practice since 1997, she integrates psychotherapy with complementary therapies and specialises in youth development and identity exploration.
