Certificate in CBT – Theoretical Understanding & Skills

This Certificate is specifically designed to raise awareness of students of the fundamental theoretical and practical applications of Cognitive Behavioural approaches in interpersonal care.

It will emphasise the importance of structured assessment and interventions based on theoretical understandings of CBT, its evolution, and traditions. It intends to heighten awareness, of the importance of such theories in the delivery of professional practice in areas such as Counselling & Psychotherapy.

On successful completion of this Certificate, participants will receive a College Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Approaches in Interpersonal Practice. This course is a 10 ECTS module from the BA Programme in Counselling Skills and Psychotherapy Studies and has an assignment attached, for those who do not wish to complete the associated assignment, the College will issue a Certificate of Attendance. All certificates run subject to a viable cohort.

The Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Approaches in Interpersonal Practice takes places over 6 weeks. This Certificate is specifically designed to raise awareness of students of the fundamental theoretical and practical applications of Cognitive Behavioural approaches in interpersonal care

 Can I study this programme on a full or part-time basis?

This programme is available only on a part-time basis and will run 1 evening per week over 6 weeks from 6.00 to 10 pm

Fees and Progression

Fees for the Module are €600.

Upon successful completion of the programme, you will obtain a College Certificate and 10 ECTS credits on the National Framework of Qualifications. Successful participants on this certificate programme may apply to progress on to a range of BA(Hons) Programmes or if eligible may progress to a range on MA programmes in the college. Should you wish to proceed to one of these programmes, tuition fees for the first year of the degree will be reduced by €300.

Structure of Course The Certificate in CBT is a 6 week programme.

Course Content will include:
An overview of who benefits from CBT,  who uses it? and what situations is it used in? The evolution of cognitive behaviourism and the key theorist perspectives and their influences on the development of the evolving theories. An outline of Beck and Ellis theories and their development in contemporary  practice
Therapeutic Relationships and Cognitive Behavioural approaches. Levels of cognitions (thoughts, beliefs and assumptions). Measurement of Behaviours and Thoughts, Self Reporting Methods, Diary keeping.

Relationship between assessment, care planning and interventions.

CBT and evidence based practice and research.

Ethical issues in the practice of Behaviour and Cognitive Behavioural   Therapy CBT interventions as an element of integrated care approaches.                       Relationship between CBT and medical approaches.

Relationship with  other psychotherapeutic processes.

An overall review of the course treads and links
