1.1.1       Module content, organisation and structure

The module will be delivered in the first semester through synchronous classroom-based delivery and the VIRI classroom. The module introduces participants to an understanding of the principles of Work Psychology, paying particular attention to widespread psychological implications of work, such as the changing workforce and generational/cultural/individual psychological needs within a work setting. The teaching of the modular content will draw upon and relate to leadership and management roles, aspects of entrepreneurial ethos, mentoring and coaching in the workplace and/or customer relationship management – all of which is to prime and support the further development of these topic areas within the more specialized modules across the principal and embedded programmes

The module introduces participants to an understanding of the principles of Work Psychology, widespread psychological implications of work, such as the changing workforce and generational/cultural/individual psychological needs within a work setting. The teaching of the modular content will draw upon and relate to leadership and management roles, aspects of entrepreneurial ethos, mentoring and coaching in the workplace and/or customer relationship management – all of which is to prime and support the further development of these topic areas within the more specialized modules across the principal and embedded programmes. Within that context, the module will address the following issues within the period of the semester and will be underpinned by research from the field: Evolution of Work Psychology; The Role of the Work and Organisational Psychologist; Ethical and Professional Practice; The Analysis of Work in the 21st Century including the growth and impact of Artificial Intelligence and technological innovations; Measurement in Work Psychology; Work and Workplace Design; Ergonomics; Human-Machine Interaction and AI; Health and Safety at Work; Prevention of Human Errors and Accidents; Work Time and Behaviour at Work; Attitudes at Work; Job Satisfaction, Job Involvement, Commitment and Engagement; Psychological Aspects of Workload and Work Stress; Work-Life Balance; Work Motivation; Indicators of Work related burnout e.g. Employee Sickness, Absence, Attrition and Turnover; Diversity in the Labour Market and Workplace; Work Socialization of Young People. The module facilitates in-depth analysis of Work Psychology principles and the relationship between Work Psychology and wellbeing in a range of work environments. The syllabus provides opportunities for knowledge development while enabling personal reflection in line with professional norms.  This module will be delivered over 12 weeks and will be guided by the following themes across the period.
