Finbar Chambers – ‘Emotional intelligence and knowledge of self’
Date: Wednesday October 11th 6:00 to 7:15pm

Location: ICHAS College, Walton House, Lonsdale Road, National Technology Park, Castletroy, Limerick.

Finbar has been working in the education sector for the past 18 years both at home and abroad.  He received his MA in psychotherapy in 2010. His dissertation focused on the experiences of those in education working with socially disadvantaged groups and early school leavers. He also has a BA in Legal Studies and a post graduate diploma in Education both attained from the university of Limerick. Finbar has been a lecturer in ICHAS since 2008.’

The talk looks at how Emotional Intelligence and a knowledge of self can help in dealing with the stresses of modern living and assist in improving our relationships with ourselves and others thus taking more control over our mental health

Lloyd Horgan – ‘Health Anxiety & Overthinking’

Lloyd Horgan, a student at the Irish College of Humanities & Applied Science is studying towards an Honours degree in Counselling & Psychotherapy.  Lloyd holds qualifications in Social Studies & Mental Health Awareness/Nursing. Alongside academics Lloyd has personal experience in previously dealing with anxiety, something he openly shares in the hope of it giving others the courage to open up & perhaps combat or overcome personal struggles.

Often referred to as ‘being a hypochondriac’, health anxiety disorders or ‘somatic symptom disorders’ involve being preoccupied with the belief that one is developing a serious illness or that their health is at immediate risk. This talk will explore ‘overthinking’ & what ‘health anxiety’ really is.

Joe Forde – ‘The myth of the idealized parent’

Location: ICHAS College, Walton House, Lonsdale Road, National Technology Park, Castletroy, Limerick.

Joseph Forde, a graduate of NUIG, OU and ICHAS, has over twenty years experience in adult education, childcare management, community education and project management.  He holds post graduate qualifications in education and education research and holds an Honours Masters’ Degree in Child and Adolescent Development.  He has also completed several research projects and is published within these subject and experiential domains.

The influence of consumerism places significant pressures on parents in contemporary society to live up to an idealized version of parenthood.  This paper will discuss the notion of being a ‘good enough parent’.
